THE APPRENTICE- Day 1- 1st Challenge: Ultimate All-Stars

It’s the weekend but it’s not going to be so restful for our contestants in the first ever GrayHaven Comics Apprentice as Editor Ray Goldfield has come down from the penthouse to have a word with the 18 guys and gals participating in the contest.
RAY:  “Welcome to the game, and best of luck to all your contestants. Before I divide you into teams, I want to see what each of you are capable of. So we’re going to do an INDIVIDUAL challenge to kick things off. And based on the results, I intend to cut two of you from the game.”
RAY: “This is your first challenge, Ultimate All-Stars.
The Ultimate Universe was one of the biggest game-changers in modern comics history. Not only was it the first time Marvel had created rebooted, modern versions of their characters, but it gave major properties to lesser-known creators, and wound up launching the Marvel career of none other than Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar. That kind of lightning rarely strikes twice.
This challenge, you’re going to try for that second lightning strike.
Each of you, is going to give us your pitch for the next Ultimate Universe. You have two choices. You can do this for DC Comics, and give us what the Ultimate Universe would be like for them. Or you can go to Marvel, and relaunch the Ultimate Universe from scratch.
You’re going to create pitches for four books, either for Marvel or DC, relaunching some of that company’s icons in modern settings. You have a lot of freedom, since this is an out of continuity take, and can alter their origins, supporting cast, or personal details however you want. However, you can’t continue the current Ultimate Universe or any DC alternate continuities like Earth One, but you can borrow elements from them if that’s the direction you want to go in. In addition, we want creative teams for each book – and much like Bendis, the writer should be someone that you promote from Indie or non-big-two comics, potentially launching a new superstar.
Here’s what we need from you.
 – A brief overview of the universe you’ve chosen and the direction you’re taking it, including any running plots or threats you intend to have running through the entire line.
 – Four pitches for new titles taking place in either the Ultimate DC Universe or the Ultimate Marvel Universe 2.0. These should include a cast of characters, details on what sets this version of the character(s) apart, and a brief outline of the origin and early threats they’ll face during the first 12 issues.
 – A creative team for each book. The Artist can be a Marvel or DC mainstay, but the writer should not be. None of the writers you choose should have worked on a flagship book for Marvel or DC before (any of the headline franchise books), and at least two of your writers should have never written for Marvel or DC before. Your four books should have at least three writers on them, so you can have one writer do two books a la Millar on UXM/Ultimates.
Your Deadline is  July 26th at 7 PM EST. Good luck.”
