What’s New for The Gathering in 2012- NYCC edition

New York Comic Con has come and gone and for a lot of people the big announcements by companies is what they most look forward to from Cons. We didn’t have a panel or someplace to step up and make our announcements so why not just do it here for our fans.

While the goal of The Gathering is to give new artists and writers a place to have their work published (often for the first time) there has been an obvious benefit to the participation by some comic pros to the book. From those experienced in the small press like Mike Lapinski (Feeding Ground),  Brent Peeples (Last of the Greats),  Amanda Rachels (Clown Town), and Len Wallace (Love Buzz) to ‘Big Two’ creators like Sterling Gates (Hawk and Dove, Captain Victory) and Gail Simone (Batgirl, Firestorm) we’ve been fortunate to have professionals lend their time and talents to our anthology. Not only does it boost the profile of the book and the creators within but for me personally it’s just a tremendous learning experience to go through the creative steps with these experienced pros.

So how is 2012 shaping up? Pretty well. Here is the list of the tentative creators lined up for a story (or two) in 2012 editions of The Gathering.

It begins in January with our first issue of 2012: Sci-Fi.  The great Mike Lapinski returns to The Gathering to be paired with Star Wars novelist and Star Wars comic book writer John Jackson Miller. JJM and Sci Fi are a natural fit and this story is gonna knock your socks off.

Sterling Gates will return in the Western volume with a story so cool I’m curious as to how many people will figure out the magic behind the tale.

We’re not revealing the exact issue(s) yet but I am beyond excited to announce the following creators to the ranks of The Gathering in 2012.

Josh Fialkov

Sean McKeever

Scott Snyder

How cool is that list? Scroll up and look at it again. Barring any crazy schedule issues these uber talented creators will do me the honor of participating in some of our issues next year. What’s even better is that there may even be a couple more added.

Make mine 2012!

Oh, Wow. Fialkov and Snyder? In addition to all the rest of the big hitters 2012 really is shaping up to be a stellar year for The Gathering.

No way. As awesome as the other pros are, those last three just give me chills to know that they’re going to be doing some of our books.
