You Choose the theme of a Future issue of The Gathering- pre poll

We’re not even through 2011 and have a very big slate of books scheduled for 2012 but before you know it (Spring 2012) it’s going to be time to announce the schedule and open submssions for 2013.  And since the top two reader choices for this year (Sci Fi and Western) received most of the submissions we’re going to give you another chance to have a say in the types of stories you want to read.

No poll yet. We won’t post that for a couple months. But now is the time to get your ideas to us via the Comments section. Post what you think would make for an interesting theme and we’ll add the most frequently mentioned/our personal favorites to the Official Poll later this year.

I would go with a volume along the lines of DC’s Wednesday Comics from a couple summers ago.

A volume of strictly 1 or 2 pages (at max) stories done in the vein of traditional weekend comics. A single writer or writer/artist could even do a 2 pager of two separate one page comics that are completely different from each other. You could even make The Gathering: Sunday Comics (for want of a better name) the lone 2013 color issue.

    What does everyone think?

      I second this. Great idea.

I’d also suggest “Pulp” as a theme. Detective comics, adventure serials, that kind of thing.

    Porcine Themed Shenanigans.

I’d love to see the following:

    Pulp/Noir
    Fantasy
Comedy (I know, you said this will never happen)
    Autobiographical
    The Future (not exactly SciFi)

I also love the Sunday Funnies idea

Mondo-Smackdown Overdrive: The Ultimate Battles for Supreme Supremacy.

The deets: An intergalactic nerd/internet blogger has abducted several creatures/beings from the Earth to answer fanboydoms greatest question once and for all. “Who would win in a fight between ____ and ___?”

Each story could be a particular fight, and finally in the end, all the abducted creatures/beings would converge on the intergalactic nerd and unleash something known as the Quantum Beatdown Boogaloo.

Here are some possible title cards

    Unicorn vs Pegasus
    Leprechaun vs Gnome
    Robot vs Android….vs Cyborg
    Slow Zombie vs Fast Zombie

    and so on.

Out Side the Box – More Twilight Zone then Horror.

On the Edge – People being saved from jumping off The Edge.

PETS – Yeah…you heard me…it’s Fluffy’s and Mr Cuddles’ turn to shine.

Paranormal. Not sparkly vampires or horror but all things unexplained

    Paranormal is a cool idea.

    Folktales.

Odd Jobs – an issue devoted to strange jobs. I’m not thinking it has to be run-of-the-mill mundane everyday stuff either.

Matt – I recognize your whacked out writing style anywhere! 🙂
